Russian for "iris" (in the sense, "eye iris") is раёк. Another meaning of раёк (literally, "little paradise") is "gallery, the gods." So we are back at the theatre.
On the other hand, Iris is an anagram of Siri. Siri von Essen, August Strindberg's first wife, was a Swedish actress (and a Finnish noblewoman). She is Maria in Strindberg's autobiographic novel Le Plaidoyer d'un Fou.
