Another mistake related to "Returning to the hazel-filbert issue, I got a delightful color-rendering in another set of Nabokovian first lines( "La Veneziana"): "...It was about five in the afternoon. The ripe sunshine dozed here and there on the grass and the tree trunks, filisred through the leaves, and placidly bathed the court, which had now come alive."
I was unhappy with the easy transposition (St. Philbert/São Felizberto/Filbert), which made me read "filisred" as "hazel-colored."
I checked away in various dictionaries, before it occurred to me to question my google version of "La Veneziana". The word, as it appears in the printed edition (Knopf,1995), in the second line of the second paragraph, is "filtered through the leaves" ... and, of course, this is the correct term.
