Dr. Kurt Johnson's Nabokov Archives Donated to Univ. Florida,
Gainesville, Lepidoptera Center
Date
Body
Dr. Kurt Johnson (co-author of Nabokov's Blues and other articles involving Nabokov's science) has donated his extensive Archives on Nabokov and Nabokov's science to the McGuire Center for Lepidoptera at the University of Florida, Gainesville, where he is associated with the Center and the Florida State Collection of Arthropods, which now the largest collection of butterflies in the world.  The Archive will be shipped to Gainesvilles as of/during May 2009.  Kurt continues to live in New York City.

An itemized list of the Archive's contents is below, with contact information for the McGuire Center re: any future needs for access and use by scholars.  Kurt, Dubi Benyamini, and Zsolt Balint are also gradually building a synoptic reference collection of Nabokov's world blues at the McGuire Center.  Extensive material at the American Museum of Natural History, from Kurt's tenure there, is generally not available to the public as the Lepidoptera collection there has generally been moth-balled due to lack of staff.  DNA samples of all available Nabokov's blues worldwide were collected by Kurt, Benyamini, Balint and others, over the last eight years and are part of a forthcoming study; this DNA material is permanently with Dr. Naomi Pierce at Harvard University, Museum of Comparative Zoology.

Below is a detailed itemization of the Archive being sent to Gainesville.
