Published Wednesday 19 August 2009 at 17:18 by Alistair Smith
Alan Bennett’s new play The Habit of Art, starring Michael Gambon, Alex
Jennings and Frances de la Tour, will open at the National Theatre this
November.
The show, which will run in the Lyttelton Theatre from November 5 with press
night on November 17, will be directed by Nicholas Hytner.
Also as part of the NT’s autumn/winter programme, Katie Mitchell will direct
two plays – a new version of Ferdinand Bruckner’s Pains of Youth by Martin
Crimp and an adaptation of children’s book The Cat in the Hat. Both will be
staged in the Cottesloe.
The programme also features two solo shows in the Lyttelton - Brian Cox will
perform an adaption of Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov and US actor John Lithgow
will appear in Stories by Heart, a double bill of works by PG Wodehouse and
Ring Lardner.
Meanwhile, the NT has revealed that All’s Well That Ends Well and its
forthcoming stage production of Terry Pratchett’s novel Nation will be the
next shows to take part in NT Live and be screened live into cinemas across
the country.
