one little correction: "my dear", in the oft-misquoted Bogdanovich's line as rendered by me in the previous posting, should be "darling" (dushen'ka)
one little addition: When in 1830 Pushkin visited mad Batyushkov in Moscow, B. didn't recognize him (even after Pushkin had named himself). By the way, Pushkin was known to Batyushkov as Sverchok (cricket), Pushkin's nick-name in the Arzamas Society.
