After MR's query about spiral staircases in VN and SKB's reference to the
miracle staircase in Santa Fe - which might have been visited by VN, I
remembered VN's various references to spirals with no cases.

Also "Jacob's ladder" came to my mind with its ascending and descending
angels, and the spiral staircase at the Vatican Museum, with its winding
separate paths for up and down-moving visitors on a double helix: has
Nabokov ever made reference to either ?
