QUERY: Trees, Cannibalism, Pale Fire

Dear List,

Two queries, and a plea for forgiveness if the answers should be obvious.
The end of the semester has muddled my brain somewhat.

1) Has anyone addressed in print the significance of the specific passages
in Shakespeare to which the trees in New Wye correspond? I have some ideas,
but I'd like to know what else has been said.

2) Does VN in any of his works address or allude to the topic of
cannibalism?

Many thanks,
Matt Roth
