So the Department of Homeland Security says Brit soul singer Amy Winehouse is a danger to these hallowed shores and can't get visaed for tonight's Grammy Awards?

"Dumbest" book on the top 100? Something listed as "erotica" called "Zane." "Smartest" book? Nabokov's novel "Lolita."

And after you recall that good test-takers are not always the kind of folks you'd like to meet, you start dealing with the troubling fact that lots of the bottom 20 books here are listed in the genre "African American." But knowing that tests designed by upper-middle-class adults are, big surprise, aced most by upper-middle-class teens, you calm down. It's just an odd convergence of stats. And you know what? Smarties do rule. "Lolita" constantly rewards rereading at every stage in life.
