Don -- Is it possible that Bobbie Ann Mason is the best kind of
beneficiary of Nabokov, mainly because she doesn't sound anything like
him? I sometimes think the best lesson any great artist can impart is
not to be like them but to be like no one else, and Mason always struck
me as a real original who forged her own path.
