Dear Don,

Strictly speaking, the anniversary of the Bolshevik coup d'etat was
yesterday, November 7 (October 25 by the Old Style). It is true that,
without this tragic event, and the whole series of disasters that followed,
some of us (me, for example) may have not even existed; but I doubt that,
had it not had occurred, this would influence VN's bibliography in any way.
Perhaps just some of his novels would have been set in Siberia, not Germany.
