[EDNOTE. From your ex-editor's long-time birding and botanizing
companion, Fred Keller, for NABOKV-L. --D. Barton Johnson.]
Steven Hammer has published Bulbine lolita, a new miniature South
African succulent plant termed "a pearl skinned beauty from the
Knersvlakte". The article appears in Cactus and Succulent Journal 78
(2), 70-72 (2006). The new species is described as being highly
precocious. Under the right conditions, seeds sown in November will
produce plants blooming in January. The author states that, " The
precocity and remarkable beauty suggested the name, by analogy with
Nabokov's Dolores "Lolita" Haze".
