Just a guess -- Joan Fontaine or Joan Bennett -- can't say she really looks
like either one, but they are the only 1940s Joans that come to mind.

Dear List,

Does anyone identify the female film star? She appears in Lyne's film
*Lolita,* on a gravure page--preceding that of Burt Lancaster--at which
Lolita is looking when HH sees her for the first time. Her name written
above the page looks like Joan (or Jane?) someone. Joan Fontaine is the
only Hollywood star of '40s that occurs to me by the name, but I am not
certain whether or not it is her photo. In Stephen Schiff's script there is
no mention of the actress (there is no screen magazine).
Thanks very much for any help.

Best wishes,
Akiko Nakata
