name Locquet a comment on the name of the Ascot. "Ascot" anagrams to
"tosca." I don't suppose this has anything to do with the Puccini opera,
but since the "c" is hard, it is a phonetic anagram of the Russian word
"toska," which is one of those affective Russian words that has no exact
English equivalent, but a number of possible translations depending on the
context, including "anguish," "melancholy," "ennui," "longing," "yearning,"
etc., many of which would apply to Hugh Person's emotional state.
