An allegorical map of the region of tender sentiments, composed by Mlle Scudery with frequenteres of her salon. Its manin features were three cities of Tendre, on three rivers, Tendre sur estime, T. sur Reconnaisance, & T. sur Inclination. Three roads, all starting from Nouvelle Amite, leqad to Nouvelle Amiie passing thru stages appropriate to the respective goals, such as Sincerite, Probite, or Petits soins, Empressement but wrong turnings could take the travellers to the Lac d'Indifference or the Mer d'Inimite. Appears in M. de Scudery's novel CLELIE (1654-60).
The reference also alludes to HP's foot problem.
