Subject: MSA 6 Panel: Modernisms' Other Memories (4/28/04; MSA 10/21-24/04)

Modernist Studies Association 6th Annual Conference
Vancouver, B.C., Canada, 21-24 October 2004

OTHER MEMORIES:

The year 2004 marks the 100th anniversary of Bloomsday memorialized in a key text for canonical Modernism: Ulysses. This event will be marked by a year's worth of celebrations, culminating in Dublin on Bloomsday. Instead of strolling down memory lane, this panel seeks to explore and remember Modernism's OTHER MEMORIES. The panel hopes to explore the provocative nexus of MEMORIES and MODERNISMS. The following questions may be considered:

What moments in Modernist history have been forgotten, ignored, or even erased?

What artists and works have faded from critical memory?

What varying conceptions of memory itself do the arts offer?

How is Modernism remembered today?

How and what do Modernisms remember?

All approaches to the topic are encouraged.

Please send 250-word abstract to Marianne Cotugno mcotugno@moc.edu by Wednesday, April 28.

Conference theme: Other Modernisms/Modernism's Others. Conference info: http://www.sfu.ca/conferences/msa/
