Hello Don,
I?ve had a Nabokov sighting yesterday, but I don?t know if it will come as a novelty to you or if it falls into the category of a "sighting"...
I enjoy buying books or ordering them from abroad but letting them lie unmolested until one of them winks at me and yesterday, just before retiring I was "summoned" by "Paysages originels" ( Ed. du Seuil, 1999 ) by Olivier Rolin.
Rolin centers his attention on childhood landscapes that had never left an author?s mind and he chose five writers that had been born a century before: Hemingway, Michaux, Kawabata, Borges and Nabokov !
I delved into twenty delightful pages describing Rolin?s visit to St. Petersburg, his chats with the lively museum?s curator Alexander Alexandrovitch and tours to theTenichev Institute and other places also completely derelict when he described several coincidences, such as his hotel being in Tchaikovsky St. only to discover that the Serguievskaia St. he wanted to visit was now this same Tchaikovsky St., or Blaise Cendrars ( Frederic Sauser ) while he was describing sparkling jewels just a few blocks away from where Nabokov had been admiring his mother?s "bijoux" transparencies and rainbows ( Freudians Keep Out...).We could comfortably travel Ialong with him in his train of " Nabokov?s railway-symphony recurrent themes and travels".
If this author has not yet been brought up to Nabokv-L concerning his references to Nabokov here is my pleasurable sighting of both.
