Vinh & Richards re Ada & the Addams Family

EDNOTE. Alphonse Vinh, among the earliest subscribers to NABOKOV-L ten-odd
years ago, and Nicholas Richards respond to Raya Seem's speculation about
ADA and the Addams family. Alphonse's research shows VN was already living
abroad when the Addams TV show broadcast, but Nicholas Richards points out
that VN must have been aware of the Charles Addams cartoon characters
from its earlier frequent appearance in the NEW YORKER. VN does covertly
allude to TV programs, comics, and cartoons in ADA and elsewhere.

Subject: Addams family & Ada
An interesting and seductive theory. Before the TV series & films the Addams
Family began as the gothic characters created by Charles Addams in a series
of cartoons in the New Yorker. Therefore, it seems inconceivable that VN
would have been unaware of Charles Addams' creations albeit on a superficial
level. Perhaps DN could shed some light on this?
