Dear Mr Reynolds,
Ms Kunin might have a valid point here about Hazel and her parents' pity.
The valid point is Jerry Friedman's.
Dear Jen,
Her parents and home were her one zone of love and security - but not enough, given her'faint hope' for love and a normal life beyond this nest.
I just noticed another oddity. Although Hazel lives at home, the nun-to-be is described as "that nice frail roommate," presumably Hazel's.
Carolyn
