There is a sentence of VN that I took down in Portuguese and lost its reference and which I cannot locate among my VN books in English.
I would be very happy if Nabokov-L could help me, but this seems to be an almost impossible task - although the image VN created is very strong. Nabokov writes about " memory´s ink-stained fingers".

Cordially, Jansy
P.S. Just an observation concerning Sonia Soto´s translation of VN´s violation of the cardinal rule for translators. Sometimes VN books in English and specially in Portuguese ( as well as in Spanish, I imagine) are quite difficult to get. This doesn´t excuse S.Soto´s hurried rendering of Pnin, but it may serve as an explanation for difficulties we may find while dealing with Nabokov´s books.
