There are perhaps a hundred books about Nabokov. You have, say, read a
couple of Nabokov novels and want a brief overview. The best such
critical introduction is:

Neil Cornwell's VLADIMIR NABOKOV. It is part of a British series called
"Writer and Their Work" published by Northcote House in association with
the British Council. Plymouth, England. 1999. ISBN 0-7463-0868-X.

To quote from a forthcoming review: "Professor Cornwell knows Nabokov's
oeuvre, its Russian and English contexts, the scholarly literature, and
writes with sophistication, grace, and wit. This is an outstanding
critical guide that is of interest both to the newcomer and to the expert."
