I'm curious about immediate sources of the supposed subtitle of the
manuscript of Lolita, "The Confession of a White Widowed Male." The term
WWM would seem to come from the vocabulary of the personal ads, so what I'd
like to know is whether any literary periodicals in NY in the early fifties
might have had such ads. The NYRB came into existence in '63; the Village
Voice starts in 1955, a year too late. Any suggestions?
