EDITOR's NOTE. Each year around VN's birthday the Nabokov Museum in
Petersburg sponsors a series of talks at the Museum and a ceremony at VN's
former country estate Rozhdestveno. Below Evgenii Belodubrovskii reports
some of the highlights of this year's event. I translate and summarize Dr.
Belodubrovsky's remarks.

-------------------------------------

Sixteen-odd papers were delivered at the conference at the Nabokov Museum
(the former Nabokov home) in St,. Peterburg. Of particular note were:
Ljubov Polishchuk on Bryusov & VN; Ljubov Ryagusova (Krasnoyarsk) on style
in Vn and Khodasevich; and Galina Glushanok on Nabokov's correspondence
with Grinberg and Aldanov on Blok.

A visit to Rozhdestveno, the country estate VN inherited from Uncle Ruka,
was a sad occasion. Reconstruction of the burned-out house moves very slowly
while the surrounding area rapidly fills up with the luxury dachas of the
wealthy "New Russians".
