Mark mentions Gore Vidal and Nabokov. Although Nabokov mentions
W.H.Auden,--something about Auden's missgendering of le monde? did Auden
ever make any remarks about Nabokov? Besides Edmund Wilson, it seems Nabokov
never got into any literary battles with contemporaries. I wish he would
have, to entertain future readers. But his calling T.S. Eliot the "Wally
Simpson of American literature" is surely one of the funniest things he ever
wrote. Almost below the bra, I mean belt.

But I'm still curious about Auden and Nabokov.
