Wouldn't it be worth trying making a film directly from the VN screenplay?
Gus Van Zant's _Psycho_(1998) was an overlooked film, made by staying as
close to the script of the Hitchcock original as possible. I imagine that
Van Zant has the unusual discipline required to make a working film out of
any script, even if it is distant to his personal sensibilities.
