Subject
Russia to save Karner Blue?
Date
Body
EDITOR's NOTE. NABOKV-L recently ran a piece from the New York Times about
the campaign to save Nabokov's "Karner's Blue" that he describes in PNIN.
The URL below has an Izvestiya article (in Russian) in which the journalist
proposes that Russia become the saviour of the species. The rationale is
that Russia has a lot of the wild flower lupine and the American butterfly
is imperiled because lupine habitat is declining. One suspects the
journalist doesn't know that there are a huge number of lupine species--only
one of which (presumably) is the host plant for Karner Blues.
Oleg Dorman, who submitted the item, is a Moscow film maker who is
working on a Nabokov documentary.
