--------------------

EDITOR's NOTE. NABOKV-L subscribers receive the list and ZEMBLA <http:
//www.libraries.psu.edu/iasweb/nabokov/nsintro.htm> at no cost. Both
services are provided under the auspices of the International Vladimir
Nabokov Society. Membership in the Society is not required in order to
receive them. Society membership, a modest $15 per year, includes a
subscription to the informative twice-yearly publication THE NABOKOVIAN.
In addition, the Society publishes an annual scholarly journal, NABOKOV
STUDIES. Now starting its fifth year, NABOKOV STUDIES is the journal of
record for the field and publishes much of the best in Nabokov criticism
from the international community. Although most of the considerable work
involved in producing the journal is done on a volunteer basis, printing
costs must be paid. Since the number of subscriptions has remained too
small to cover these costs, the journal has been fortunate to obtain
limited, short-term financial support from Davidson College and now, as
well, from the University of Minnesota. NABOKOV STUDIES is most grateful
for this support but cannot expect such generosity indefinitely. The
journal must acquire a solid base of subscribers. We urge all to
subscribe. Sample articles and Society membership information may be seen
on ZEMBLA.

In the meanwhile, the Society is most pleased to report below that funding
for the journal has been assured for the immediate future.

>From Zoran Kuzmanovich & Sam Schuman:

We are pleased to inform Nabokovians that, thanks to the
generosity of Davidson College and the University of Minnesota, NABOKOV
STUDIES has secured the fiscal support required to publish at least the
next several years' editions. In particular, we have Dr. Christine
Maziar, Vice President for Research and Dean of the Graduate School of the
University of Minnesota, Professor Samuel Schuman, Interim Chancellor and
Dean of the University of Minnesota, Morris, and Professor Clark Ross,
Dean of the Faculty and Vice President for Academic Affairs at Davidson
College, to thank for this important security. In an era when academic
presses and scholarly publication are increasingly constrained by tight
budgets, this guarantee of the resources necessary to ensure the continued
success of our journal is particularly gratifying.

Those of you who subscribed for three years will have your subscriptions
run out with Volume #5 which should be on your desks at the end of
October. Individual volumes are still $25.50 each and back issues are
still available. Please re-subscribe for another three volumes by sending
a check for $70.00 (payable to Nabokov Studies) to:
