It may interest readers of NABOKV-line that on January 17, 2000, Dmitri
Nabokov issued the following statement as part of a program promoting
conservation of Nabokov's endangered Karner Blue being presented by Kurt
Johnson and Steve Coates for the Save the Pine Bush foundation, in Albany,
the state capital of New York, January 26, 2000.

On the Occasion of Save the Pine Bush's January 26, 2000 Program on
Nabokov's Blues and the Fate of the Karner Blue--

"My father, Vladimir Nabokov, made a point of not being a joiner and
trying not to be a 'public figure'. He made an exception to this modus when
it came to L. samuelis, whose habitat was already endangered in his
lifetime. I am certain he would have been shocked and eloquent in his
defense of what little remains of this precious survivor's Pine Bush
habitats."
