In a description of an exhibit entitled "Philippe Halsman: A Retrospective"
now at the National Portrait Gallery in Washington DC through February 7,
the well-known Nabokov portrait is characterized as follows: "Vladimir
Nabokov tweedy and only slightly more amused than suspicious." His
portrait is mentioned between one of Debbie Reynolds "as the ingenue she
was then and ever shall be" and one of Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis
"colliding in frantic, screaming midair."
