EDITOR's NOTE. The novel Cary Henson <cphenson@execpc.com> refers to below
got the 1998 Booker Prize--if I recall correctly.
--------------------
For those who didn't see it, William Pritchard mentions
VN in his review of Ian McEwan's _Amsterdam_ in the Dec. 27
New York Times Book Review (page 4):

"'Amsterdam' is a well-oiled machine, and McEwan's pleasure
in time-shifting, presenting events out of their temporal order
. . . is everywhere evident. Vladimir Nabokov, asked whether
sometimes his characters didn't break free of his control,
replied that they were galley slaves, kept severely under his
thumb at all times. McEwan follows this prescription in spades."
