I'm enjoying this thread, both Dieter Zimmer's missive and Robert Cook's
reply, here in the student section.

Could Barbara Braun represent the kind of heartland American
pseudo-intellectual who tended to swoon for all things European,
including on occasion totalitarianism? I'm thinking of a story in
Nabokov's Dozen...can't remember...I did my homework, honest...the point
being that 'Barbara Braun' sounds very ordinary and yet has the sinister
undertones already discussed...
