EDITOR'S NOTE. Although the volume below is a Russian translation of a
work written by VN in English, it may be of interest to scholars and
collectors due to the "Introduction" by Andrey Bitov, perhaps the best
living Russian writer of his generation. He was much influenced by
Nabokov, especially in his major novel _Pushkin House_.
