A small news item of interest from both this morning's New Zealand Herald
and the Dominion:
"Professor Brian Boyd, recognised as the world's leading scholar on novelist
Vladimir Nabokov, had been awarded a personal chair by Auckland University,
the university said yesterday. His acclaimed two-volume biography of the
Russian-American writer has been translated into Russian, Japanese, Spanish,
German and French. This year is the centenary of Nabakov's [sic] birth.
Professor Boyd is also working on the biography of philosopher Karl Popper,
an Austrian Jew who fled to New Zealand during World War II. Only a few of
the university's professors hold personal chairs, which recognise
outstanding contributions to research and teaching. - NZPA"
Congratulations, Prof Boyd!
