A Comment

In "Pnin" VN mentioned a time-frame discrepancy in "Anna Karenin" that would
prove a relativity of time in literature. A year of Anna and Vronskii
goesthere parallel to a year and a half of Kitti and Levin’s.

The events in KO are precisely timed, as you know. However: as Magda meets
Gorn for a second time at Krechmar’s party (Chapter XVI) on the back of the
drawing he gives her she sees the date and that fourteen months has passed
since then. But they clearly met in spring (“...This spring day that
Levandovskaya mentioned (Gorn), his note “Rent is paid till July”
(Chapt.III),and the party after which she gets the drawing is held in winter,
so if 14months would be “true” their first encounter falls on late summer or
fall - never spring.
The mentioning of fourteen months (in general irrelevant to the text’s
“veritability”)has no other explanation rather than throwing in one more
allusion with AK given VN’s observation on Tolstoy’s work.

A Query

Ms. Nikki Smith (Nabokov Estate) kindly informed me that film rights on
Laughter in the Dark/KO are fully conveyed. Does anybody knows anything about
it being in pre-financing/preproduction phase? I spent some time thinking and
writing to make KO a movie (as a script writer)
