Sorry to bother you all with this - and sorry also that it's the second
quotation I can't find with which I've turned to the list - but I'm sure
that Nabokov says: "Where there is beauty there is pity for the simple
reason that beauty must die", or words to that effect. Anyone who knows
where - I'm pretty sure it's not in Strong Opinions - will win my undying
gratitude, unless they also found the "beauty plus pity" quotation for me,
in which case I'm in trouble.
Intro: I am an amateurish Nabokovian currently in the final year of an
English Degree, and the final twenty-four hours of a dissertation on Nabokov.
