EDITOR's IDLE THOUGHT. Being "reductive" is not necessarily a bad thing.
In fact, it's often supremely useful.

I agree with Charles. It seems reductive to me to choose one side of the
novel over the other, and I think that Nabokov worked in many exquisite
contradictions in order to prevent one from doing so.
