Query: Family tree puzzle in ADA (fwd)

EDITOR'S NOTE. Galya Diment <galya@u.washington.edu> sends the item below
with a prefatory comment... One answer to Andy Shaindlin's question may be
found in the ADA chapter of D. Barton Johnson's _Worlds in Regression:
Some Novels of VN_ (Ann Arbor, 1985). It shows that sibling incest has a
long & honorable history in the novel. The ADA section of
the Zimmer Bibliography available on the VN WEB site ZEMBLA http:
//www.libraries.psu.edu/iasweb/nabokov/nsintro.htm should be
consulted for general information on ADA. Finally, Brian Boyd's extensive
"Annotations to ADA" running serially in THE NABOKOVIAN are
indispensable. They now cover through Chapter 6.

Dear Don,

This may amuse you, and give you hope. It's from an alumni group E-list
(Brown U), and, of all things, they are discussing ADA!!! Who says
people don't read or discuss important books any more?! Galya

In _VN: The American Years_ Brian Boyd says in his book about "Ada" that
Van and Ada are not only brother and sister, but also 1st, 2nd, and 3rd
cousins to each other. I would appreciate an exact explanation of this (in
plain English) since the Durmanov-Veen relationships are somewhat
confusing, to say the least and I am not good at deciphering the family
tree.
THANKS.
