I would second the recommendation of "Cloud, Castle, Lake". I think the
short stories are a good place to start and perhaps a copy of "Nabakov's
Dozen" would be a good introduction. Following the line of a VN story takes
some practice, as does an appreciation of his wit and imagination, and, as
with any skill, starting with shorter works may be the best way to interest
your children without frustrating, and in turn discouraging, them. Good
luck, I wish someone had introduced me to VN 10 years earlier than I
discovered him on my own.
