At present I am working on the significance of light and mirroring
effects, "the play of light and shadow on a living body" in Nabokov's
works. I would like to know if anything has already been written and
published on the subject or if anybody is working on it at the moment.
I have read Appel's book and found it very illuminating, but he is more
interested in cinematic tropes whereas I am mainly fascinated by the use
of light effects as in the beginning of "The Gift": the ambivalence of
reflection and reflecting surface, the sudden switchings of perspective,
the misleading character of reality as it is perceived by our senses.
