Come on, guys, just open your dictionaries, atlases and
encyclopedias. NOVA ZEMBLA had been the only accepted English name of two
large islands in the Arctic Ocean (Russian: Novaia Zemlia) for centuries
until the universal system of direct geographic transliterations was
introduced in the 1950's and it was Russified. There are hundreds and
hundreds of references to Nova Zembla (or Zembla) everywhere. As for Pope,
he mentions Zembla in *The Dunciad* (1, 74):
Or gives to Zembla fruits, to Barca flowers <...>
