I've done a bit of research on _Pale Fire_, especially with respect
to Shakespeare. Meyer's _Find What the Sailor Has Hidden_ is definitely
the best starting place. Also, Appel and Newman's special VN issue
of Triquarterly contains a fantastic piece by Lubin (?) named something
like "Kickshaws and Motley." Lubin makes an interesting, and I think
crucial, remark on VN's 'proleptic tmesis' vis-a-vis a particular
Shakespeare reference. Best,
