EDITOR's NOTE. Christine Raguet-Bouvart <ollier@montaigne.u-bordeaux.fr>
is a leading French Nabokovian. Brief accounts of much of her work may be
found in Jeff Edmunds' survey of French-language Nabokov scholarship in
the 1996 number of NABOKOV STUDIES.
------------------------------------------
I would like to thank all the NABOKV-L subscribers who suggested
answers to my query on LOLITA. With the information collected I hope I can
progress in my search.
Of course, Dali obviously comes to mind, and the Magritte line makes
sense too; but how is it that nobody mentioned Giorgio De Chirico and I
think of him when I read this passage? Is it because, the beach evoked takes
me to Annabel's French Riviera, and therefrom to Italy?
It is interesting to note how we read Nabokov with our own cultural
references and cannot trace his easily.
If one day I come across the Picture of the Week and have a
Conclusive Evidence, I'll let you know...
