Thanks to everyone for the help with VN and Lacan. I've since found a
mention of VN in Jacques-Alain Miller's introduction to one of Lacan's
untranslated (and maybe still unpublished) lectures (I can't remember which
lecture, and I'm not in my office to look). I also discovered that I have
the Kristeva, but hadn't even looked at it. Thanks for the direction.
