Teaching Nabokov

Alice Birney has called attention to a thread on AMLIT-L about teaching
Nabokov. It started around April 9. Out of curiosity, I reviewed the
material. Most of it concerns the wisdom of trying to teach Nabokov to
students without much literary sophistication. Reaction runs the gamut
from "Nabokov is wasted on people under thirty" to "sure, there's lots the
students won't get, but the exposure is good for them." While the
discussion won't tell you anything new about Nabokov, it presents an
opportunity to share teaching experience with several of the discussants,
titles to prefer or avoid, etc. Last summer, I think it was, AMLIT-L had an
amusing and vigorous thread on who should play the various roles in a
(hypothetical) new film version of LOLITA.
NABOKV-L requests its subscribers to inform the list when they see
Nabokov material on other lists. With thanks in advance.
