1) I have now gotten the Olympia Press 4th printing (Nov. 59) of
LOLITA from the Barnes and Noble mail order catalogue. It has the reddish
stained glass butterfly covers rather than the green of the first three
editions. This, together with the Apr 1959 printing recently offered by
Daedalus, are nice curios for your Nabokov shelf.
2) TIME magazine (30 Jan. 1995, "Books" Section has R.Z. Sheppard's
review of _Between Friends: The Correspondence of Hannah Arendt and Mary
McCarthy (1949-1975)_ Harcourt Brace. Sheppard quotes Arendt on VN as "an
intelligent showoff." It would be worthwhile to check out the volume for
other VN material, especially from McCarthy who knew VN and wrote so
perceptively about PALE FIRE.
