EDITORIAL NOTE: I queried Alice Birney of the Manuscript Divison of the LC
about the conditions pertaining to the NABOKOV archive there.

Re restrictions on VN materials here:
In general, items donated by VN currently require the written
permission of DN for access. Publication of unpublished material
required separate negotiations with DN. Republication or
extensive quotation of previously published items should be
cleared through the publishers.
LC has a few groups of materials which were not donated by VN
or DN, and are therefore open for examination only. At a later
time I'll briefly describe these small groups.
NYPL should supply its own interpretation of access and
copyright rules. I believe, since their archive was a purchase,
access does not have to go through DN. But any publication plans
probably would have to go through DM--unless some special
arrangement has been made with NYPL.
