EDITORIAL NOTE. Sam Schuman responds to Gene Barabtarlo's comment on the
MLA abstract re Gogolian sentences in PNIN. An immediately following
posting from Roy Johnson also responds to Barabtarlo's comment of Nov. 8.

THAT'S THE PROBLEM WITH "ABSTRACTS," OF COURSE. I SUPPOSE THAT BY "WILD" I
MEANT SOMETHING (LONGER) LIKE "SYNTACTICALLY UNEXPECTED." CERTAINLY GB IS
CORRECT THAT THESE IMAGES ARE THEMATICALLY APPROPRIATE AND TELLING; CERTAINLY I
AM ALSO RIGHT THAT ONE DOESN'T EXPECT A SENTENCE WHICH BEGINS WHERE THIS ONE
DOES, TO END UP MIDST MINARETS AND MELLONS.
