EDITORIAL NOTE. My thanks to Jerry Goodenough for his response following
Eric Roman's bibliographic query. Eric Roman, BTW, is preparing an exhaustive
bibliography of French publications by and about VN.

Further to Eric's query, the Whittakers Book database here in the UK does
indeed list two different versions of the STORIES as due for publication
in March.

Version 1 (ISBN 0297 81722 1) is published by Weidenfeld's here in the UK,
contains 640pp and is listed at 25 pounds. Version 2 (ISBN 0670 86699 7) is
published by Viking (presumably in the US), contains 688pp and is listed
at 20 pounds.

Two mysteries, then. Why is it 5 pounds cheaper to print a book in the US and
then ship it over here to sell than it is to produce the same book here?
And what is contained in the extra 48 pages which lucky American readers
will receive for their cash (or rather, what are we miserable British
readers missing out on)? The first question presumably passes all human
understanding, but I would be interested to know if there are any significant
textual differences between the two editions.
