Dear List,

Thanks to a nudge from Joseph Aisenberg, let's proceed with a discussion of
our (first?) short story. I chose "Cloud, Castle, Lake" because it was the
only story to receive two nominations (from Eric Hyman and Jansy Mello) and
because the text is available online at the Atlantic Monthly site here
<http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/1941/06/cloud-castle-lake/305003/>
.

Please read or reread the story and start sending your
thoughts--annotations, speculations, raptures, recognitions of VN's style
and subject matter, or what have you. As much as possible, I would like to
organize the discussion from beginning to end, perhaps even by individual
paragraphs. At any rate, I invite your comments on the opening paragraph
now!

Contributions by subscribers who don't usually post to the List are
particularly welcome!

:) SES
