Vernon, David is a literary academic and music writer. He graduated from the University of Oxford, before teaching English language and literature in China and Japan. He wrote his doctoral thesis at FU Berlin on Shakespeare, exploring the hidden, ambiguous and often playful role of religion in three tragicomedies. In addition to his literary work, David also writes about music and has published two books: Disturbing the Universe: Wagner’s Musikdrama (Candle Row Press, 2021) and Beauty and Sadness: Mahler’s 11 Symphonies (Candle Row Press, 2022). A third, on Beethoven’s string quartets, will appear in the fall of 2023.
David's first book on Nabokov, Ada to Zembla: The Novels of Vladimir Nabokov, was published by Endellion Press in November 2022, and offers a chapter-by-chapter exploration of all Nabokov’s novels, as well as supplementary sections on Speak, Memory, the short stories, and other works.
