The vindication of Nabokov¹s Œmorphological instincts¹ is less surprising to
those who have studiied Stephen Blackwell¹s The Quill and the Scalpel!
Chapter 1, in particular, devotes many pages to VN the lepidopterist, and
the relative pros and cons of assessing morphological and DNA evidence. Good
science sees them as complementary.

It may be worth stressing that in the long, rocky road known as the History
of Science, the term Amateur should never be taken in derogatory opposition
to Professional. ³By their deeds shall we know them ... ³
